How can we take the success of others in different fields, and use it a a model of success to make money online? I am sure that at one point or another all of us have read about individuals in the world who have worked extremely hard for brief moments of success. For instance, the song “Whoomp! There It Is” was such a huge success back in 1993 that I heard the stupid lyrics from that stupid song come out of my dad’s mouth. Fortunately, they were a one hit wonder.
Nonetheless, when we think of success, when generally do not think of people who have had their moment in the sun, and watched the sun abruptly set upon them. These are not the personality traits which anyone who wants to make money online should follow. Conversely, it is important to look at the people who have been able to maintain success over a period of time. One person who has been able to do this is the rapper 50 Cent. I am sure most people do not look at Mr. Cent (joking) as someone whose traits should be emulated, but just hear me out. What this guy has done behind the scenes is nothing short of amazing. In particular, I am talking about his ten percent investment in a company called Glacier. Glacier was the company who used to own Vitamin Water. However, the company was sold to a popular soft drink manufacturer for $4 billion. Therefore, 50 Cent a.k.a. Curtis Jackson’s 10% investment in Glacier meant that he made $400 million from the sale. The key point is that successful people recognize trends and act upon them. This leads to more success, as you can see. It does not matter if the individual is involved in music, computers, investment, entrepreneurship, or the dramatic arts. Such an ability transcends a myriad of aspects of life.
So what is it about these people that makes it possible for them to become successful, and then improve upon their success? Well, what I have been able to discover, is that as different as these people are in their professions, they share some commonalities which we will cover below.
1. Above all, successful people are extremely hard workers. From the outside looking in, we see that Sir Richard Branson owns the Virgin brand, in addition to an island and a spaceship. However, if we focus on this, we are only getting part of the story. Individuals who achieve such success start their days before the sun comes up, do not waste time and energy whining, and expect those with whom they associate to act in a similar manner. They expect a lot out of themselves. They will be the first to realize that working hard pays dividends, and this is what drives them to continually work hard. For those of you who want to make money online, you have to recognize this fact, otherwise you will give up when times become challenging.
2. Successful people have a need for answers and a hunger for knowledge. They realize that there is always something which they can learn and improve upon. As a result, such people are constantly asking questions, studying, as well as reading. Something which I found particularly compelling is the fact that while most successful people have done well scholastically, it is ability to apply what they have learned which separates them from the masses. The truth is that you can do well in school by memorizing facts and forgetting them after taking an exam. What successful people do is to learn information, and build upon their lives with this information. You must learn how to do this if you want to consistently make money online.
3. Successful people make sure that they know other people, and that other people know who they are. In other words, these individuals are very astute in the art of networking. They know individuals from eclectic backgrounds, and learn from their relationships which such individuals. They are amazingly great listeners, and seek to see someone else’s point of view prior to explaining their point of view. They are not attention seekers. To the contrary, many successful people are reserved and even bashful. Nonetheless, they place high value on the relationships which they have with others.
4. They work on themselves and never give up. Unlike one hit wonders who become arrogant and quickly disappear, the most successful people work on their personality, their leadership skills, management skills, and every other detail of life. When a relationship or business deal goes awry, they assume they can learn from it and they expect to do better next time. Successful people do not tolerate flaws, rather they do what they have to do to fix them!
5. People who experience success are immensely creative. For the most part, they do not accept impossibility. Rather, they challenge the allegation that something cannot be done. Successful individuals view challenges and obstacles as an opportunity to create a solution. They do not go to bed without making sure that a notebook and pen are right next to the bed in the event they are jolted from their sleep by an exceptional idea. They look towards others for advice, try out new methods, seek the opinions of both professionals and amateurs, and are always in search of a way to do things more quickly, less expensively, and better. Instead of searching for new opportunities to come into being, successful people create their own opportunities. Anyone who can locate a niche market, and identify a need or a want within that market, will be able to make money online by satisfying that niche market need or want.
6. People who experience success are very independent, and shoulder the consequences of their actions. They have no time to affix blame, and spend their energy searching for solutions rather than wasting time complaining. At times, they take on blame which is erroneously annexed to them. For instance, President Carter was known for carrying his own briefcase, as opposed to waiting for someone else to carry it for him, as every president is expected to do. However, due to his need to take initiative and responsibility, he was compelled to take such actions, which are usually viewed as a security breach.
7. Those who experience success are not easily rattled. They are able to maintain calm and perspective, even in the face of chaos. These individuals are not easily shaken, and do not make knee jerk decisions. Instead, they keep their poise, ask the necessary questions, and make the most rational decisions, even in the face of adversity.
8. The most successful people live in the now. They realize that the present is the only time which they can exert control over. They seem to have the uncanny ability to pay close attention during conversations and understand fully what is being said. These individuals enjoy fine dining, a good glass of wine, music, and their time with family. Although they never seem as though they are in a hurry, they get a lot done each day with efficient time management.
9. The most successful individuals are able to pick up on trends, identify shifts, and hear the mild distinctions which others do not. It is commonplace for a hockey player in the National Hockey League to use a $180 composite hockey stick. However, when you see people in a Tuesday night men’s league the same brand and model of hockey stick that Sidney Crosby uses, things become interesting. For a teammate, or even an opponent, the same $180 hockey stick presents the manufacturer with an chance to reach new markets.
10. Repeatedly successful people respond instantly. When an investment is not working out, they dump it on the market. When they see an opportunity, they make the call. If an important relationship is cooling down, they take time to renew it. When technology advances, or a new competitor threatens market share, they are the first and fastest to respond with the solution.
These traits work together to give successful people a massive advantage. The good news is that none of these traits are innate. Rather, they are acquired, meaning that you can learn them and use them to make money online.
